IPL Medical Therapies
Photorejuvenation is the broad term used to describe the treatment of photo-ageing which includes wrinkles, pigmentation and age spots. IPL treatment encourages the skin to repair itself and produce new cells and increase its collagen production.
It is a very effective and non invasive form of treatment that requires no down time. A SkinBase IPL photorejuvenation treatment will not only remove pigmentation and sun damage but also improve skin tone and reduce wrinkles.
Skin colour is determined by the amount and type of melanin found in the skin. In hotter climates more melanin is required to provide protection from the sun’s harmful rays.
When a person is healthy, his or her skin will appear normal and even in colour. In the case of illness or injury, the person’s skin may change colour, becoming darker (hyperpigmentation) or lighter (hypopigmentation).
The SkinBase IPL medical treatments target melanin, blood, and water in collagen. Skinwill look smoother and uneven pigmentation and redness reduced, giving skin a moreyouthful appearance. To avoid recurrence of pigmentation problems you should avoidexcessive sun exposure and apply a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30.
Acne lesions or pimples happen when the hair follicles or ‘pores’ on the skin become blocked with oil and dead skin cells. A blocked follicle is the perfect place for bacteria to grow and create the red bumps and pus-filled red bumps known as spots.
Scarring caused by acne looks very different from any other scar – it’s the deficit of collagen in the specific region that gives rise to acne scarring. After the acne has subsided, the affected skin region needs collagen to heal and if the skin underlying the subsided acne doesn’t have it, then it tends to get scarred during the healing process thereby giving rise to an ice pick scar.
The SkinBase IPL medical therapy for acne not only targets the acne to prevent future outbreaks it floods the area with collagen to make sure the skin can heal itself properly and prevent scars and help to reduce the appearance of existing scars.
As we age, the connective tissue and collagen in our face isn’t as strong or supportive and so we lose the ‘plumpness’ and elasticity we once had. Skin begins to age after 25,but of course not dramatically so at this point. However during our 30s, certainly, changes can be seen.
SkinBase IPL treatment causes the body to start producing lots more collagen which floods to the surface of the skin, plumping the skin and smoothing wrinkles. The extra collagen will also help the skin regain some of its youthful glow and even out skin tone resulting in a much younger looking you.
Thread veins are often seen on the face, especially the cheeks and nose. They can be caused by excessive exposure to UV radiation but some people are simply more susceptible to them and they can be present from childhood. Facial telangiectasias usually respond well to IPL treatment.
IPL therapy treats thread veins by emitting wavelengths of light that are filtered to target the haemoglobin in the thread veins/broken capillaries. The treatment causes the vein to gradually break down over a number of days until it has disappeared.
